The Internationalist Archive
Vincent Bevins is an American journalist and writer. His critically acclaimed book, The Jakarta Method (2020), charted the history and legacy of the U.S. government’s role in anti-communist mass killings around the world during the Cold War until the present time.
For Issue #70 of The Internationalist, Bevins joins Tanya Singh to discuss his latest release If We Burn: The Mass Protest Decade and the Missing Revolution (2023). The book looks at the origin and aftermath of people’s movements across the world between 2010–2020, through conversations with protestors and major actors.
In this discussion, Bevins and Singh delve into the themes of If We Burn, including citizen journalism in the era of social networking; the class compositions of popular movements; and whether revolutions can ever be leaderless.
