Vaccine Internationalism in Cuba 24-28 Jan 2022

On 25 January, the Progressive International convened Cuban scientists and government representatives to address the international press and members of the scientific community in a showcase of the Cuban vaccines.

The impact of Covid-19 has been violently unequal: 80 percent of adults in the EU are fully vaccinated, but only 9.5 percent of people in low-income countries have received a single dose of the vaccine.

As wealthy countries continue to block proposals that would make vaccines available to all, Cuba has emerged as a powerful engine of vaccine internationalism.

The Cuban government has pledged to make 200 million doses of its homegrown Covid-19 vaccines available to countries in the Global South.
