Argentina’s Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner has been sentenced to six years in prison and barred from public office in a flagrant act of persecution and legal warfare.

The sentence is just the latest in a series of attacks on the Vice President. On 1 September, the world watched in horror as a would-be assassin’s pistol failed to fire at close range on Argentina’s Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

Corporate media called the assassin a “loco suelto,” a madman. But his violent actions are part of a broader campaign of persecution that not only targets Cristina, but all projects of popular power in Argentina and across Latin America.
