On 29 May, scholars, diplomats, and policymakers from across the world will land in Brasilia for an international symposium that will help chart the course for the BRICS+ during Brazil’s pivotal presidency.
The premise of the symposium is simple, but pressing: the crisis of the existing international order has created a unique opportunity for the BRICS to play a critical role in its reconstruction.
But in order to play that role, scholars, diplomats, and policymakers must bring fresh perspectives, incisive analysis, and pragmatic proposals that can transform BRICS from a forum for dialogue into an engine of global transformation.
For this reason, a consortium of organizations has come together to coconvene this symposium at the University of Brasilia, from think tanks and research centers to international networks and political internationals.
The objectives of the gathering in Brasilia thus transcend those of the traditional academic conference.
The ideas, analyses, and proposals generated during these three days aim to inform Brazil's leadership of BRICS at a moment when the bloc's influence on world affairs has never been greater.
Bringing together leading Brazilian thinkers and officials with distinguished representatives from across the world, the symposium aims to:
Bolster the Brazilian presidency with promising proposals across its six thematic areas, from trade and investment to multilateralism and artificial intelligence.
Build a global network of government officials, civil society representatives, and international scholars to play an active role within the BRICS framework.
Identify novel opportunities for the BRICS to renovate and rejuvenate the multilateral system based on the principles of dialogue, diplomacy, and sovereign equality.
